The prominent Abu Simbel temple is the final gate to Egypt & the protector of the southern border since its creation by King Ramses II (1279-1213 BCE) during Egypt's new kingdom (1570-1050 BC) to immortalize his heritage forever. Abu Simbel is made up of two temples, the massive one is for Ramses where the sun festival takes place on the 22 of February & October of each year when the sun shines on the faces of the four seated statues of Ramses II, Ptah (God of creation), Amun (The Creator God), and Ra (Sun God), the smaller temple is dedicated to his beloved wife .
